Sniffles & Sneezles, Coughs & Wheezles

Let me tell you it is no laughing matter when a family of 8 get sick. The first cold of the season hit us and the little girls and I were hit hardest. In an effort to contain the germs they all came to sleep in my room at one end of the house while the rest of the family stayed at the other end. It was like the quarantine ward in a hospital with everyone lined up for medicine.

(Not quite like this but it sure felt like it.)

I have learnt that my twins talk to each other in their sleep. If there is just one of them in the room, they don’t talk in their sleep, but when both are in there they chat away. I guess its just one of those fascinating ‘twin things’. Needless to say there was not a lot of sleeping going on. The actual sniffle part was not so bad it was the teasy cough that lingered on. With four of us barking away at night we made quite a racket.

Ashley had a neurosurgery review this week which saw us sitting in the hospital waiting room for three hours. If you ever want to build up your children’s immune system then this is the place to do it – a veritable hot bed of germs! The next day – gastro!

Slight technical problem here. You see, because we are at the end of our packing before we move out, I had packed all the extra sheets and towels. Obviously the universe was having a huge joke at my expense. I ended up with more laundry than any one woman should ever have to cope with alone.

Anyway enough complaining for one post! The good news is that we are all well again and I can get back to writing my blog – which I have really missed.

It is a lovely Sunday morning here. We have just had a light shower of rain and now the sun is shining through the clouds. The world smells fresh and there’s bound to be a rainbow out there somewhere. Hope your day finds you safe and well.

About embracingtheimperfections

I am a mother of six children. My children's ages range from 20 down to 1, so we are dealing with a lot of different ages and stages, not to mention a lot of different personalities. One of my twins has cerebral palsy so that adds yet another dimension to our lives. Along my journey so far I have learnt that life is far from perfect and that sometimes it's the imperfections that round out the harsh edges and give it a quality that is precious and unique. My love of the imperfect extends into my home life too. I love all things vintage, hand crafted, home grown and home cooked. I love to be creative and I love learning. I am definitely not a minimalist! I aspire to be tidy and organized but I am realizing that with six children, three cats and a crazy black Labrador that is probably beyond my capabilities, so I embrace the beautiful chaos that ensues!

  1. Oh…i have also had a taste of laundry burdens after packing….i hope you were not met with situations when you pack your kids favorite bed time toy, and in the middle of the night you are hearing shrieks and bouts of crying right above your head while you unpack all boxes to retrieve the damn stuffed toy…..
The epidemic of virals spreading within the house is worse if the mom is also sick……No one to look after all!
