Special Needs

Having a child with special needs changes the lives of the whole family. If you are new to this then the best advice I can give you is to throw out your pre conceived ideas and plans, stop worrying so much (easier said than done in the early days) and learn to find the joy in the life you have been given. Along with the lows come highs that are greater than imagined possible. Seek out others who share your journey, you will be amazed how good it feels to connect with someone who knows your world. Banish society’s expectations and milestones and create your own. Learn to celebrate all the little accomplishments and don’t dwell on the unachievable. You have been given a gift, for these special children can teach you more about yourself than a thousand counseling sessions ever will. They will educate you, teach you patience, teach you empathy for others and make you grow inner strength. Treasure your gift, embrace it and share it with others. The world is a better place for our children being in it. May you be blessed on your journey.
