Happy Birthday to my Twins!

My beautiful twin daughters are turning 9 today. This time 9 years ago we were by their sides in NICU being told that they had less than 1% chance of survival.

The girls were born at 25 weeks gestation. Ashley weighed 690g and Carys weighed 730g. They spent the first 5 months in hospital. 3 rounds of brain surgery, 2 rounds eye surgery later we got to take them home.

How the years have flown and I am so grateful to have my beautiful girls. Today we had a party at home for them. One of our friends lent us a bouncy castle which helped burn off some energy and another clever friend made their birthday cakes for me. (Usually I would make their cakes but her cakes are far more lovely than my efforts.)

I thought I would share some photos from our journey – from 4 hours old, to toddlers, to first day of kindergarten to their birthday today. How the years have flown. Happy birthday my special girls x.

About embracingtheimperfections

I am a mother of six children. My children's ages range from 20 down to 1, so we are dealing with a lot of different ages and stages, not to mention a lot of different personalities. One of my twins has cerebral palsy so that adds yet another dimension to our lives. Along my journey so far I have learnt that life is far from perfect and that sometimes it's the imperfections that round out the harsh edges and give it a quality that is precious and unique. My love of the imperfect extends into my home life too. I love all things vintage, hand crafted, home grown and home cooked. I love to be creative and I love learning. I am definitely not a minimalist! I aspire to be tidy and organized but I am realizing that with six children, three cats and a crazy black Labrador that is probably beyond my capabilities, so I embrace the beautiful chaos that ensues!
