Children of Courage

The Lions clubs of Western Australia honored some amazing children today at their Children of Courage Awards.

It’s a beautiful initiative, honoring not only children who have committed acts of bravery, but also acknowledging the bravery displayed by children with special needs or serious illness.

My little Ashley was nominated this year which was very exciting. We got to catch up with some friends, Victoria, Tahlia & William, who were also nominated and all the kids received a medal and certificate. It was great seeing how some of the kids are growing and thriving despite the challenges they face.

The stories that we heard today were both inspiring and humbling. I’m so glad I took photos of Ashley before the ceremony because she was the first name called and became completely overwhelmed by the whole experience. As the presenter was saying what a positive and happy child she was, she was sitting in her wheelchair screaming with fright and crying. Poor little chicken!

Once she had recovered she was very excited and proud of her award and it has given her a great boost, especially as we have just had news that she is going to need more surgery. A big thank you to the Lions club for recognizing and celebrating these amazing kids.

About embracingtheimperfections

I am a mother of six children. My children's ages range from 20 down to 1, so we are dealing with a lot of different ages and stages, not to mention a lot of different personalities. One of my twins has cerebral palsy so that adds yet another dimension to our lives. Along my journey so far I have learnt that life is far from perfect and that sometimes it's the imperfections that round out the harsh edges and give it a quality that is precious and unique. My love of the imperfect extends into my home life too. I love all things vintage, hand crafted, home grown and home cooked. I love to be creative and I love learning. I am definitely not a minimalist! I aspire to be tidy and organized but I am realizing that with six children, three cats and a crazy black Labrador that is probably beyond my capabilities, so I embrace the beautiful chaos that ensues!
